One of the great things about growing up in the United States is the wonderful diversity of cultures here. And we can often identify one’s culture by their traditions and how they live their lives.

In this edition of Uncommon Sense, we ask whether or not others could look at your life and identify you with the Culture of Christ.

"If you are going to talk the talk, you should walk the walk."

How often do we question those who's deeds are inconsistant with the values they proclaim to hold? In this edition of Uncommon Sense we will help you anwer the key question, "Are you walking funny?

Have you ever heard the saying “Actions speak louder than words?”; How about “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me?”

These cute sayings are clearly intended to protect us against negative or unkind words that are directed at us from time to time. Unfortunately, they clearly underestimate the power of words; both the words we hear and the words we utter.

Earlier this week I participated in a forum at Sacramento State University on Illegal immigration. It was an interesting discussion that revealed the spectrum of philosophies on this topic. Positions ranged from respecting the rule of law and our boarders to setting aside the rule because of what they call “political realities” to doing away with the rule of law and our boarders.

My fellow panelists included:

Dr. Manuel Barajas, an adjuct professor and Sacramento State University

Eric Z. Guerra, the legislative aid to Senator Gilbert Cedillo (D-Los Angeles).

And Felix Barba, a junior at Sacramento State University

Dr. Barajas represents the “Boarders are unjust” contingent and advocates for their elimination. Eric was much more pragmatic. He acknowledges that we need boarders, but believes that our immigration laws don’t match up with the reality that 11 million illegal immigrants are here and more will keep coming. He believes that we should overlook their transgressions and provide for their needs. And finally Felix, the youngest of the group, stood up for protecting our boarders and for the enforcement of the law. He went on to point out how ignoring the law has become prevelent in their native country and how that trend is manifested in people ignoring our boarders and illegally entering the United States.

All in all it was an interesting discussion. I hope you find it informative.

God loves to work! Think about it… when creating the world, he worked six days and rested only one. And when he created Adam, the first thing he did was give him a job.

On the other hand, man tends to have a very negative outlook on work. We can’t wait for Friday to come so that we can leave work and dread Monday, when we have to return. And try to get people to give of their free time to volunteer.

As we are called on to have the mind of Christ, shouldn’t that also include our attitude towards work?

For some reason, the Christian Church has bought into the false doctrine of "Separation of Church and State".

Well this edition of Uncommon Sense Radio provides an introduction into what I like to call "Christian Civics" and provides some biblical arguments as to why we are not only allowed to participate, but we are mandated to participate.

The title of this episode pretty much says it all! We in the church could actually learn a few things from those in hell. As a matter of fact, my pastor has a saying, “If you are going through hell, don’t stop! And when you come out, bring some fire with you!”

Last week I sat in for Sacramento Area talk show host Eric Hogue who does the morning show in 1380AM & 105.5FM KTKZ. Much of the discussion that day was on the issue of whether or not there was an organized and deliberate effort by Mexican nationals (and some Mexican American elected officials) to repatriate California and several other western states back to mexico. The movement is called "La Reconquista" and is part of a greater concept known as Azatlan.
